May’s Multimedia
WordPress Website | UX Design | ui design
Completed 2024

Project Overview
May’s Multimedia required a robust, future-proof website capable of supporting complex eCommerce workflows, a large digital archive, and a bold, culturally grounded brand identity.
Elizabeth Mays, CEO and creative leader, spearheaded brand conceptualization and entrusted me with translating that vision into a cohesive, scalable digital system. In addition to designing and developing the core website, I also designed websites and experiential visuals for May’s Multimedia clients, ensuring brand consistency across both internal and client-facing work.
The Challenge
This project went well beyond a standard marketing site.
Key requirements included:
-
A large-scale WordPress build with extensive content and services
-
WooCommerce integrated with Gravity Forms to support complex, payment-enabled order forms
-
A giant online library allowing clients to browse past work and services
-
A visual identity that clearly communicated “Young, Black, Detroit Power” without compromising usability or professionalism
-
A system flexible enough to grow with the business
The technical challenge was building an eCommerce experience that felt seamless and intuitive despite the complexity happening behind the scenes.
Outcome
The finished website reflects May’s Multimedia’s past, present, and future — honoring a historic legacy while embracing modern systems, bold design, and scalable infrastructure.
This project demonstrates my ability to work within established creative leadership, translate strong brand vision into functional digital systems, and design complex WordPress and eCommerce experiences that perform reliably at scale.
Strategy & Approach
Brand Translation
Elizabeth Mays established a powerful creative direction rooted in legacy, pride, and forward momentum. My role was to execute that vision digitally — shaping layouts, typography, and interactions into a brand system that felt confident, contemporary, and unmistakably Detroit.
The design balances bold color, expressive motion, and strong hierarchy while remaining readable, performant, and structured for long-term use.
eCommerce & Systems Design
The site was built on WordPress using WPBakery to allow maximum flexibility while supporting advanced functionality.
Key systems include:
-
WooCommerce paired with Gravity Forms to handle detailed, service-based orders with integrated payments
-
Custom form logic to reduce friction for users placing complex orders
-
Scalable product and service architecture to support future expansion
The goal was to make a technically complex process feel straightforward and approachable for clients.
Content & Digital Library
Content & Digital Library
May’s Multimedia needed more than a storefront — they needed a living archive of their work.
The site includes a large, organized online library where clients can:
-
Browse completed projects
-
Explore service offerings
-
Understand the breadth and depth of May’s Multimedia’s capabilities
Information architecture and filtering were key here, ensuring users could explore without feeling overwhelmed.
Beyond the Website
Beyond the Website
In addition to the primary website, I designed:
-
Client website layouts
-
Digital visuals supporting May’s Multimedia services
-
Brand-consistent experiences across multiple touchpoints
This ensured that May’s Multimedia’s digital presence extended beyond their own site and into the work they deliver for others.
